4:00pm Face-off
Vs. Chiefs

SUMMARY:

The West Michigan Phantoms etched another milestone into the team's nearly 19 year storied history on Sunday, July 11th as the club recorded it's 500th team victory in a 5-4 shootout win over the Chiefs.  Despite climbing out to a two goal lead early in the game, the Phantoms would be down by two goals by the halfway mark of the third period and used strikes by Kyle Clark and Brenden Bender to ultimately tie the game at 4-4 with just 45 seconds remaining in regulation.  The game would advance to overtime shoot-out, where the Chiefs would jump out to a 1-0 lead on their shot followed by a missed opportunity during the Phantoms first attempt.  The Phantom netminder would make the save on his second shot faced during the second round and the Phantom's Kyle Clark would capitalzie on the team's second attempt in the shootout to tie the overtime duel at 1-1.  Phantom netminder Kevin Wootton would make a perfect poke-check save during the Chiefs third attempt to give the Phantoms a game-clinching opportunity during the Black & Yellow's third attempt.  Chris Laux would light the lamp behind the Chiefs tender on the team's third shot and the Phantoms would skate away with the 2-1 shootout advance to capture the game's 5-4 victory and seal the 500th victory for the Phantoms.  The team's milestone win would come during the team's 860th franchise game played.  "To look back at all the games we have played and what we as a group have accomplished is very rewarding," said Phantom goaltender Kevin Wootton.  "Being able to be apart of a team for 19 years and able to capture a shootout victory in the team's 500th win was a great way to mark the occasion," Wootton said.
